Samples available: AdvancedMC connectors for MicroTCA, CN080 Series
Yamaichi Electronics started offering samples of its MicroTCA backplane connector, CN080 Series.
(Please contact us for details on the samples.)
MicroTCA is a series of specifications being developed by PICMG*1 to incorporate the features of the AdvancedTCA*2 specifications for smaller applications that AdvancedTCA could not apply.
While AdvancedTCA is targeted towards telecom core applications, MicroTCA is mainly meant for edge applications where physically small size and low cost are key factors.
As in a case of AdvancedTCA, Advanced Mezzanine Cards (AdvancedMC*3s) are the primary component of MicroTCA and provide the system with functional elements.
While AdvancedTCA uses an AdvancedTCA Carrier Board to connect AdvancedMCs to the system, MicroTCA connects AdvancedMCs directly to a backplane.

CN080 Series are used to connect AdvancedMCs to a backplane.
As with CN074 Series (AdvancedMC connectors for AdvancedTCA), the unique compression-styled mounting technology*4 is adopted for the CN080 connectors to deliver signals at 12.5 Gbps.
Thus the CN080 connectors support high-speed data transfer and large-volume data storage for sophisticated networks such as wireless base-stations or FTTH as well as enterprise and home networks.

AdvancedTCA is a series of PICMG specifications developed by more than 100 member companies of the consortium for next-generation telecommunications.
The specifications, which incorporate the latest technologies including high-speed transmission and next-generation processors, define a new blade and chassis standard form factor.
The hot-swappable blades, on which AdvancedMCs are installed, provide high levels of serviceability and configurability.
Further, the system management function can handle high-load applications. - *3 AdvancedMC (Advanced Mezzanine Card)

AdvancedMCs are high-speed mezzanine cards optimized for next-generation telecommunications equipment.
AdvancedMC modules are hot swappable from the front of AdvancedTCA or MicroTCA shelf. - *4 Compression-styled surface mount technology

Yamaichi Electronics unique SMT eliminates through-holes or soldering.
It compresses spring contacts against a board and keeps the mating part pressed down on the board with screws.
The technique enjoys advantages of high-speed transmission (beyond 12.5Gbps) and high-density mounting capabilities that are key requirements for next-generation telecommunications equipment.
